Harrogate Resident

A Harrogate resident looking to stop their use of fossil fuels altogether, to eliminate carbon emissions. They already had solar PV panels fitted and owned a hybrid car and this was another step in the right direction.

Focus: Optimise domestic energy usage and generation

"We removed our gas central heating boiler and installed an Ecodan 8.5kW air source heat pump (ASHP) and some larger radiators, as the flow temperature is around 48°C and so needed bigger radiators in some rooms. We also had a new tank fitted as is required with ASHPs.

We wanted to move completely off fossil fuels but it was going to be costly to cap the gas off and so we still have a gas hob.

We also made sure that we had maximum insulation and all of our lights were LED were possible.

We already have solar panels and triple-glazed windows.

Our system cost £9,500 inc 5% VAT and our Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is £394.27 per quarter so just under £1,1115 over seven years - more than covering our installation costs.

The ASHP is predicted to generate 13,213 kWh per annum."
