As part of the Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) project in collaboration with North Yorkshire Council we are offering *fully funded home retrofit, energy installation and assessment training.

 

This series of funded courses aims to upskill North Yorkshire’s trade professionals and enable them to undertake projects centred around domestic retrofit and renewable energy solutions. (Trade Professionals) Fully Funded Renewables Installation Training

 

These courses are now available for trade professionals in North Yorkshire, preparing you for the increasing demand in domestic renewables across North Yorkshire. Funded through the LEAD programme, all training is provided by UK leading renewables trainer GTEC Ltd.

Air Source Heat Pump Training Course

 

Training to become a MCS accredited Air Source Heat Pump installer.

 

Demand for air source heat pumps in the UK is growing rapidly, in the last year there has been a 50% increase, as more and more homeowners move from gas boilers to heat their homes, further incentivised by the £7,500.00 Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

 

A three-day course, designed for experienced heating installers who wish to future proof and expand their skill set to include the installation and maintenance of ASHP’s in domestic and small commercial settings.

 

This Air Source Heat Pump Installation Course delivers the knowledge, skills and competency required to design, specify, install, commission, and maintain domestic and small commercial air source heat pumps.

 

During the course, candidates will receive practical training, including work on:
 

  • Purpose-built Live ASHP rigs

  • Theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best-practice

 

At the end of the three-days, candidates will undertake a practical, observed assignment and multiple-choice, open-book theory assessment.

 

On successful completion of this course, candidates will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

 

Course Prerequisites

To enrol on this Air Source Heat Pump installation course, you need to hold the following qualifications:

 

  • Level 3 SVQ or NVQ in plumbing, heating/ventilation gas or oil.

  • WRAS Water Regulations, which can be completed in addition to your ASHP qualification, if necessary, if not held.

To enrol on this Air Source Heat Pump installation course, you need to hold the following qualifications:

 

  • Level 2/3 SVQ or NVQ in plumbing, heating/ventilation gas or oil.

Solar PV training course
 

This three-day training course is designed for experienced domestic and commercial electrical operatives who wish to add the installation and maintenance of this renewable electricity generating technology to their services.

 

The solar photovoltaic installer course delivers the knowledge, skills and competency required to design, install, commission and maintain domestic and commercial solar PV systems.

 

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:

 

  • Purpose-built solar PV rigs, featuring different types of modules, inverters, and roof mounting kits.

  • Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

  • You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best practice.

 

At the end of the three-days, you will undertake a practical, observed assignment and multiple-choice, open-book theory assessment.

 

On completion of this course, you will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

 

Course Prerequisites

To enrol in the solar PV installation course, you need to hold the following qualifications:

 

  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671) Current Edition.

  • Level 3 Qualification in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations.

Solar Thermal Installation Training

​

This three-day training course is designed for experienced domestic heating installers or plumbers who want to up-skill to include the installation and maintenance of solar thermal heating systems and join MCS.

 

This Domestic Solar Thermal Installation Course delivers the knowledge, and skills required to design, install, commission and maintain solar thermal systems in residential settings.

 

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:

 

  • Purpose-built solar thermal rigs; and

  • Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

  • You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best practice.

 

At the end of the 3-days, you will undertake a practical, observed assignment and multiple-choice, open-book theory assessment.

 

On completion of this course, candidates will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

Course Prerequisites

To enrol on this domestic solar thermal installation course, you need to hold certificates for Level 2/3 SVQ or NVQ in plumbing, heating/ventilation gas or oil, plus the following qualifications:

 

  • WRAS Water Regulations

  • Energy Efficiency Part L

  • Unvented Hot Water Systems

Battery Storage Systems
 

Learn how to specify and install efficiency boosting battery storage systems with the UK’s leading specialist renewables training provider.

 

The 2-day training course is designed for experienced domestic and commercial electrical operatives, an ideal add-on for solar PV installers looking to help their customers generate and store their own power while accessing the most attractive Smart Export tariffs.

 

This Level 3 Battery Storage training course covers the installation of dedicated EESS in accordance with the IET code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems. It provides detailed theoretical and practical knowledge enabling candidates to apply the relevant regulations and guidance and safely work on battery storage systems.

 

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:

 

  • Purpose-built battery storage rigs; and

  • Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

  • You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best practice.

 

At the end of the course, candidates will undertake a practical, observed assignment and an online/theory component.

 

On completion of this course, you will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

 

Candidates will require an up-to-date copy of the IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems, which can be provided at cost price (£70) at the time of booking.

 

In addition to the above, candidates will need to bring the following books:

 

  • BS 7671 18th Edition

  • IET Guidance Note 3

  • IET Onsite Guide

 

All other course materials will be provided.

 

Course Prerequisites

This qualification is aimed at practising electricians, electrical technicians, and engineers with experience of electrical installations and associated inspection and testing.

 

Applicants should be working in the electrical industry and should hold as a minimum:

 

A level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671

 

A level 3 award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations or a combined award including Periodic Inspection & Testing.

EV Charger Installation Training
 

Learn to specify and install electric vehicle charge points with the UK’s leading specialist renewables training provider.

 

This training course is the ideal up-skill for experienced electrical engineers who wish to expand their services to take advantage of growth in the EV market.

 

The Level 3 EV Charging training course covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment designed for a variety of electric vehicles, including pure electric and plug-in hybrids in domestic, commercial and industrial settings.

 

During the course, you will receive practical training, including work on:

 

  • Purpose-built EV charging rigs; and

  • Live equipment within a fully functioning plant room.

  • You will also cover theory relating to health & safety, industry regulations and best practice.

 

Assessment consists of a practical observed task and an online/theory component.

 

On completion of this course, you will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

 

Course Prerequisites

To enrol on this course, you should have experience installing electrical installations within domestic and/or non-domestic premises and hold as a minimum:

 

  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations (2391-50 or equivalent).

  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2018 (current edition).

Retrofit Professional Training – Asssessment and Coordination

 

Have you ever considered a career in in retrofit?

We are now offering fully funded training for people who would like to get involved in reducing our impact on the planet and help people live in better, healthier and efficient homes. The following funded courses are now available for people in North Yorkshire, preparing you for the increasing demand in domestic retrofit across North Yorkshire. Funded through the LEAD programme, all training is provided by The Retrofit Academy.

 

Retrofit Assessment and Coordination Training

To meet the current and future demand for retrofit professionals across North Yorkshire the following funded training opportunities are available. Training opportunities are provided by our training partners The Retrofit Academy and Elmhurst Energy. Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA)*

Domestic Energy Assessors are qualified to assess the energy efficiency of residential properties of all types, performing on-site assessments to examine property-level data and to produce an associated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

 

*This training is offered to those who don’t already hold their DEA qualification and go on to study to become a Retrofit Assessor. There are no qualification requirements for the DEA course and is open to anyone who wishes to pursue a career in Retrofit Assessment. First part of Retrofit Assessor training if not already held

 

Course Summary

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment gives you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to produce quality Property Assessments on domestic properties, including collecting the property level data of the building, floorplan and to produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

 

There are a total of four modules:
 

1. Conducting Energy Assessments

2. Preparing for Energy Assessments

3. Undertaking Energy Inspections

4. How to produce and explain Energy Performance Certificates

PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessor
 

Retrofit Assessors visit properties and carry out full property surveys. These surveys and their outputs are necessary to inform the decisions made by the Retrofit Coordinator or Retrofit Designer, about which energy efficiency measures should be installed in the property.

 

Suitable for: Qualified Domestic Assessors level 3

 

Course Summary

This is an online course delivered by a TrustMark training provider, where the student has several options on when to study.

​

The Pas2035 Retrofit Assessor Course includes the following elements:
 

  • Introduction to PAS 2035 and TrustMark.

  • Building Physics i.e.: U-Values, Heat Gains and Ventilation.

  • Occupancy Assessments i.e.: the OA process and methodology for advising consumers around inputs and calculation results.

  • Condition Assessment i.e.: Site Constraints, Structural Defects and Estimating Energy use and Cost.
     

Attendees will also complete a Test Case on the final day to show their competence as a Retrofit Assessor.

PAS 2035 Retrofit Coordinator Diploma Level 5
 

Retrofit Coordinators manage the PAS 2035 process throughout a project. Crucially, the Retrofit Coordinator ensures compliance with the procurement, specification, and delivery of measures in all domestic retrofit projects.

Guiding the decision-making process, the Retrofit Coordinator protects the resident or homeowner’s interest from survey to handover.

 

Suitable for: Individuals who should consider becoming Retrofit Coordinators include those with qualifications in built environment subjects, ideally at least Level 3 with a minimum of 12 credits. Additionally, if you possess a university degree relevant to the built environment, you already meet the entry requirements for this course. This role is perfect for anyone passionate about ensuring sustainable and compliant retrofit projects in the UK’s housing sector.

Builder Installer Retrofit Training 

 

The LEAD programme we are running several training opportunities based around the three key areas of retrofit: airtightness, insulation and ventilation. In partnership with leading companies we are delivering hands on workshops across the county. 

 

Hands-on Building Airtightness Workshops 

​

To help builders transform their approach to building design and construction and conform to Part L Building Regulations. Part L of the building regulations provides guidance on energy efficiency. It covers the thermal performance of a building’s fabric and heating systems. 

The three half day sessions will focus on the critical role of airtightness in modern building practices that will shape house building and renovation well into the future. 

 

Delivered by industry leading airtightness company, Partel, they will gain practical experience with membranes, tapes, airtight components and tools, and learn expert techniques and troubleshooting tips from industry experts. 

 

The workshop will cover: 

• Why buildings need to be more airtight 

• Condensation risk 

• Airtightness and ventilation 

• How to build an airtight structure 

• Retrofitting airtightness 

• Breathability 

• Specifying the correct product(s) 

• Case Studies 

 

The workshops take place from 8am until 12.30pm at the following venues:
