Jemima Parker

Chair

I am passionate about seeing transition to a fossil fuel free world at a local level. My day job involves working for the Church of England Diocese of Leeds as their Environment Officer, leading on their net zero carbon by 2030 action plan. I love the local Yorkshire countryside and am a keen mountain-biker and orienteer.

I am a retired local government officer, having specialised in transport policy and strategy development. Following a personal interest in the development of a low-energy housing project, I now live in one of only a handful of certified Passivhaus homes in Yorkshire.

Jo Webb

Trustee

I have been involved in further education for 19 years, with 4 years spent at Harrogate College as Principal. I care deeply about giving people life changing opportunities through education. Being a trustee of ZCH gives me an opportunity to extend my involvement in our community, to help support people as part of a sustainable society.

I’m coming to the end of a career in chemical engineering and have an interest in clean energy and the environment. My wife and I moved to Harrogate in late 2023 to be closer to our children and grandchildren; we now have first-hand experience of the process of ‘greening’ our home to include a heat pump, EV charging point, insulation and disconnecting our gas supply!
With previous charity trustee experience, my aim is to support ZCH in its objectives for Harrogate to play its part in combating climate change and the crises in our natural world

With a background in Local Government – including working for the Local Government Association nationally – my time, more recently, has been focussed largely on the environment. As well as providing coaching to a number of organisations such as Green Peace and Friends of the Earth until last year, I was a member of the board of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and it's chair for four years. Recently, in addition to joining the board of Zero Carbon Harrogate, I have become chair of the More in Common Harrogate and Knaresborough  group.

Trustee

My professional background was social work, retiring from a senior management role in 2024. Having always had a keen interest in my own carbon footprint I now also want to take an active part in promoting climate action  specifically, by supporting Zero Carbon Harrogate with the human resource component of successful project bids that involve the employment of workers.

Climate Action Coordinator

For the last three years, I've worked for a UK-wide climate action charity educating people about the climate impacts of aviation and campaigning about green travel and transport. I'm thrilled to bring my strong background in communications and events to my role with ZCH and work on a wider range of community-focussed projects to inspire climate action in my hometown, Harrogate.

Energy Lead

I joined the early Friends of the Earth groups and the environmental “green” offshoots that emerged from them. With a background in education, my focus has been on helping non-scientists develop a greater understanding of the issues involved. To this end, an Environmental Book Group was established, where we read and discussed current literature in this field.

The need to take care of our world and our planet in distress remains paramount. My aim is to support ZCH in this work, starting here in Harrogate as we continue to develop a strong community base.

Fergus was the founder of SEO company Blueclaw, which he exited following its acquisition in September 2021. Over the course of his career, Fergus has worked with companies, ranging from ambitious SMEs to FTSE 100 PLCs, across a range of industries and now brings a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of Internet marketing, IT operations and senior team leadership skills to ZCH.

I am a retired scientist with a longstanding interest in climate change and energy.

Sustainable Transport

Paul’s career started in paediatrics and general practice, before working and volunteering in Montserrat, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Sudan.

His public health career spanned working as a national director for the UK government, as a regional director for the North of England and Yorkshire for the NHS and Public Health England, and as a district director of public health in Teeside.

Now retired, Paul currently chairs the UK Faculty of Public Health Climate and Health Committee and supports VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) as a health advisor, and lives in North Yorkshire with his family.

I am a retired programme manager.  I enjoy mountain biking and touring cycling and in my spare time run a local bike recycling charity called Resurrection Bikes.

I work part time for Resurrected Bites, a Community Interest Company which intercepts food waste, running Community Groceries and Pay as You Feel Cafés. I am a keen cyclist, abandoning car ownership three years ago. I am particularly exercised about the need for much greater support for active travel and public transport, from both central and local government.
