The York and North Yorkshire Carbon Negative Conference held on Friday 13th at the Milner Hotel in York, was a triumph.
From the carefully curated programme to the seamless delivery, the day was a masterclass in how to bring people together around big ideas – and make them feel hopeful and energised in the process.

Particular praise must go to Deputy Mayor Jo Coles, who spoke knowledgeably about operational emissions, and the impact of climate change on emergency services, as well as Julia King (Baroness Brown of Cambridge) who delivered a compelling talk on adaptation in her role on the UK Climate Change Committee. Their contributions stood out for realism and professionalism – it’s this kind of clear-eyed dedication that inspires real thinking, action and progress.
The ‘learning lunch’ was a fresh and engaging innovation – not just a chance to refuel, but to connect and continue the conversation in a more informal setting. It worked brilliantly.

Huge congratulations to the organisers for such a stimulating and encouraging event, as there is so much we can build on from here to make sure our region really does achieve the carbon negative ambition.
